About Us

The Language Access site is a resource provided and maintained by the Limited English Proficient/Sensory Impaired Program (LEP/SI) to assist staff of the Georgia Department of Human Services in providing meaningful language access to customers.

In July, 2002 the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), in collaboration with the Office For Civil Rights U. S. Department of Health and Human Services and local advocacy groups, developed its “Plan for Client Services For Persons with Limited English Proficiency and Sensory Impairment”. This Plan established a point of contact for the design, coordination, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of limited English proficiency and sensory impairment customer services. The LEP/SI Program serves as the overall point of contact.

The responsibilities for carrying out DHS’s Plan, policy, and associated procedures to ensure meaningful access for limited English proficient and sensory impaired customers are shared by the DHS as a whole through the joint effort of the Office of Legislative Affairs and Communications (OLAC), LEP/SI Program and the various Divisions and Offices that provide direct benefits and/or services to LEP/SI potential and actual customers.
