July 30, 2008 - GeorgiaCares State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) received a supplemental grant of more than $379,800 from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that must be used between June 1, 2008 and March 31, 2009. SHIP is a grantee program of CMS that is available to every state. GeorgiaCares is a program of the Department of Human Resources, Division of Aging Services (DAS).
July 23, 2008 – August is National Immunization Awareness Month and the Georgia Department of Human Resources Division of Aging Services (DAS) is encouraging older adults to get immunized against the flu. The flu season, which typically runs from late fall until March, is responsible for an average of more than 200,000 hospitalizations and 36,000 deaths each year in the United States.
July 22, 2008 - Georgia recently walked away with the 2008 Council of State Governments Innovations Award for pioneering a high-tech statewide crisis and access line center. Funded by the Department of Human Resources (DHR), the Georgia Crisis & Access Line (GCAL) is viewed by the crisis industry as a new generation crisis center. Established in 2006, GCAL which is operated by Behavioral Health Link (BHL), is one of many DHR reforms designed to improve Georgia’s Behavioral Health Care System. The award will be presented in Omaha, Nebraska December 4-7 at the Council of State Governments Annual Conference.
July 17, 2008 - Today, the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) and a host of state and federal officials kicked off Georgia’s first farmers market to accept food stamps, a pilot project enabling families of low-income to have access to fresh produce and other foods. Washington Cabinet Member Roberto Salazar provided the keynote message.

It is important to remember that temperatures in your vehicle could spike to 160 degrees Fahrenheit on a hot and humid day within a matter of minutes – even with the windows partly open.
July 7, 2008 - Effective July 1, the Multiple Offender Program of the Addictive Disease Section of the Department of Human Resources has been renamed the DUI Intervention Program. This change reflects HB 336 recently signed into law by Governor Sonny Perdue. Under the new DUI law, all DUI offenders are required to have a clinical evaluation and, if recommended, complete treatment.
July 1, 2008 - Today Governor Sonny Perdue announced that state officials signed a voluntary compliance agreement with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights (OCR) that formalizes an effort to transition mentally ill and developmentally disabled Georgians out of state hospitals.
