December 21, 2011 - ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) is announcing the availability of the Problem Solving Court program (PSC) in Ellijay to assist non-custodial parents with meeting their child support obligations. PSC provides an alternative to incarceration for failing to meet child support obligations by addressing underlying issues and barriers that cause non-custodial parents to become chronic non-payers of child support.
December 6, 2011 - ATLANTA – Today, Commissioner Clyde L. Reese, III, announced that Ron Scroggy will serve as the Department’s Acting Director for the Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) and Katherine Herren will serve as the Acting Deputy Director for DFCS. Scroggy and Herren will serve in this capacity until the Commissioner’s Office completes a search for a new DFCS Director.
October 18, 2011 - SNAP (Food Stamp) recipients will soon experience a change in the timing of their monthly benefit. Starting in November, the State will use a new formula to determine when clients will receive their benefits. Food stamp benefit amounts will not change as a result of this new process and the date will still fall between the 5th and the 14th of each month. Benefits will now be distributed based on the last two digits of the Client ID for the Head of Household.
September 27, 2011 - ATLANTA –The Georgia Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program recently received three awards for exceptional performance by the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA) at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. The Georgia SMP earned the Complex Issues Award: Highest Dollar Amount Referred for Further Action, Innovation in Collaboration and Partnership Activities and the Expansion of SMP Program Capacity awards.
September 13, 2011 - ATLANTA – Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) Commissioner Clyde L. Reese, III, Esq. recently announced the appointment of new leadership to key posts within the Department’s Offices of Residential Child Care (ORCC), General Counsel, and Budget and Planning. LaMarva Ivory will serve as Director of ORCC, R. Demetrius Taylor as Director of Budget and Planning, and Rachel King as Deputy General Counsel. "These individuals have consistently demonstrated strong leadership while acting in the best interest of Georgians,” said Reese. “I am confident they will serve the Department well in their new roles.”
August 15, 2011 - Most Georgians think that flashlights, duct tape, batteries, and canned goods will get them through an emergency, but these items alone are not enough especially for older adults and people with disabilities who may require additional supplies. Seventy-eight percent of Georgians believe they are adequately prepared to get through 72 hours following an emergency, but studies show that most people have not taken the necessary steps to fully prepare themselves for a large-scale disaster.
