October 27, 2006 – Thomson area residents will have an opportunity to attend a public hearing to give their input on the Division of Aging Services (DAS) 2007 State Plan renewal Monday, November 13, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the McDuffie County Leisure Services Center, 304 Greenway Street in Thomson.
October 26, 2006 – Approximately 15 children with the hope of finding a permanent family and prospective adoptive families will have the opportunity to meet at an adoption party and videoconference on Saturday, November 11, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Georgia Department of Human Resources’ (DHR) Division of Family and Children Services’ (DFCS) Adoption Unit is sponsoring the event.

October 23, 2006 – Today is the official kick-off of Red Ribbon Week, a national week-long drug prevention and awareness campaign celebrated in thousands of schools and communities in Georgia. Red Ribbon Week activities including neighborhood parades and motorcades, high school pep rallies, and poster contests will take place from October 23 -31.
October 23, 2006 - The Georgia Department of Human Resources will hold a press conference in Columbus to announce new mental health services for children and adolescents a nd funding for cancer treatment in order to strengthen families in Columbus and throughout Georgia.
October 20, 2006 – Columbus will benefit from new mental health services for children and a statewide increase in cancer treatment funding according to state officials. B.J. Walker, Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Human Resources today announced new services and funding for the Columbus area, as part of the state’s commitment to strengthen Georgia families.
October 20, 2006 – Depression Awareness Month, a national observance celebrated in October, serves to remind people that help is available and in Georgia is now much easier to access thanks to the first statewide crisis and access line, 1-800-715-4225, established in July. Last month, more than 20,000 people called the 24-hour, 7-day-a-week hotline to be connected to mental health services throughout the state.

October 19, 2006 – Brunswick area residents will have an opportunity to attend a public hearing to give their input on the Division of Aging Services (DAS) 2007 State Plan renewal Thursday, October 26, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Coastal Georgia Community College, 3700 Altama Avenue in Brunswick.
October 18, 2006 – Dublin area residents will have an opportunity to attend a public hearing to give their input on the Division of Aging Services (DAS) 2007 State Plan renewal Tuesday, October 24, 2006, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the DuBose Porter Center, 560 Pinehill Road in Dublin.
