Celebrate the caregiver in your life

This November, DHS and the Caregiver Action Network are honoring the family caregivers who do more than just serve as caregivers. Many have jobs in addition to caregiving, and we should celebrate the identities and passions that enrich their lives every day. In a new study from the CDC, over 40% of people in the United States identified as unpaid caregivers. According to AARP, approximately 41 million unpaid family caregivers provide an estimated 34 billion hours of care – worth $470 billion to their parents, spouses, partners and friends every year.

Family caregivers selflessly answer the call to take care of a loved one. They work long hours to ensure that their loved ones are bathed and fed, get to their doctor’s appointments and take their medications. They are true heroes who deserve to be celebrated.

Throughout November, follow DHS on Facebook and Twitter to stay up to date on tools and tips for caregiving. To request services, call 1-866-552-4464 or visit the DHS Division of Aging Services at www.Aging.Georgia.gov.
