Gina Simpson named Deputy Commissioner

ATLANTA (GA) Commissioner B. J. Walker of the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR) has appointed Gina M. Simpson as Deputy Commissioner effective July 13, 2004. Simpson has seventeen years experience in human and social services - primarily in the state of Alabama.

Simpson recently completed studies at Harvard University where she received a Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree with a concentration in Leadership. Prior to her work at Harvard, she served as a consultant for the Child Welfare Institute and the National Resource Center for Child Maltreatment in Duluth Georgia.

Simpson served as a Congressional Liaison for the State of Alabama. She worked in Washington D.C. to secure resources and advocate for issues for her state. She also served as Director of the Clay County Department of Human Resources in Ashland, Alabama.

In addition to her Harvard MPA, Simpson received a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Science degree from Jacksonville State University.

Simpson will be responsible for policy and program integration initiatives at DHR. She will also be responsible for legislative affairs, child support enforcement, regulatory services and human resource management and development.
