Gwen Skinner to head state mental health agency

ATLANTA (GA) – B.J. Walker, commissioner of the Georgia Department of Human Resources (DHR), has appointed Gwen Skinner as director of DHR’s Division of Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases, effective June 16.

Skinner has over 20 years of experience in Georgia’s child welfare and juvenile justice systems. She has served as deputy commissioner of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) for the past five years. For the previous five years, she headed DJJ’s Division of Community Programs.

“Gwen Skinner has a strong record of working with community groups and with other departments and agencies that serve Georgians, especially children and adolescents,” said Walker. “She brings to this position qualities that enhance the DHR team. As we continue towards strengthening our system of services for people with mental disabilities, we are encouraged and we look forward to Gwen’s contribution to this important effort.”
