• Registration for Fingerprinting

    The applicant registers for fingerprinting using the Georgia Applicant Processing System (GAPS) via the Idemia website here. Idemia is the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's (GBI) designated vendor for fingerprint based background checks.

    • Applicants can access  Idemia for registrations, scheduling, or changing fingerprint appointments after approval.
    • Applicants can contact Idemia customer service directly at 1-833-542-9283 for help with registrations, fingerprint appointments, TCN Retrieval, and locations. 
  • Submitting the Records Check Verification Form

    The IDHS Records Check Verification Form must be completed and submitted by the hiring agency via IDHS after the applicant has registered in the GAPS Idemia system. Submit the form here using the UE ID needing approval.

  • After Fingerprinting

    Once fingerprinting is complete, applicants are provided with a Transaction Control Number (TCN). 

    If a TCN is not received, applicants should contact Idemia customer service at 1-833-542-9283 to retrieve a TCN.

  • Understanding Your Determination Letter

    Satisfactory Letter

    A Satisfactory Letter is issued if there are no disqualifying offenses. This means the applicant is eligible to work in a licensed facility or to provide services as a DHS Contractor.

    Disposition Letter

    If additional information is needed, a Disposition Letter will be issued.

    • DHS Contractors have 15 business days to update or correct the criminal history record.
    • Residential Childcare Licensed Providers have 30 business days to update or correct the criminal history record.

    Unsatisfactory Letter & Appeal

    An Unsatisfactory Letter is issued for a disqualifying conviction.

    For Residential Childcare licensed (RCCL) facility applicants, an appeal can be filed within 10 business days.

    RCCL Appeals are reviewed by the Office of State Administrative Hearings (OSAH).

    • If the appeal is approved, a Satisfactory Letter will be issued.
      Note: There are no appeals for DHS Contractor applicants.
