Legal Services

Grandparents who are raising grandchildren often face legal questions involving custody, adoption, public benefits, education, and other issues.

Georgia has two organizations that provide legal advice and assistance to grandparents: the Atlanta Legal Aid Society and the Georgia Legal Services Program. The Atlanta Legal Aid Society serves the five core metro-Atlanta counties (Fulton, DeKalb, Clayton, Cobb, and Gwinnett). The Georgia Legal Services Program serves all other counties.

To access legal services, contact the Relative Caregiver Hotline. The Relative Caregiver Hotline is a project of the Georgia Senior Legal Hotline. The Relative Caregiver Hotline can provide advice and if necessary referral to both the Georgia Legal Services Program and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
