Exploring Careers in Aging
According to the US Census Bureau, in 2035, people older than 65 will outnumber children under age 18. Meaning, there will be a high demand for trained professionals to take care of our aging communities. The Department of Human Services Division of Aging Services (DAS) is participating in the national Careers in Aging Week, April 19-26. This week we are showing Georgians what it’s like to work in older adult services.
DAS has resources and opportunities in universities, senior living communities, hospitals, long-term care, assisted living communities and other workplaces to excel in the aging industry.
Read an open letter from the Division of Aging Services’ Director Abby Cox:
“Never has aging taken center stage as it has amid the COVID-19 crisis. We have seen Georgia’s aging network step up and expand partnerships and collaborations in order to ensure that older adults continue to receive the critical supports they need to remain in their homes and communities.
The impact of those partnerships will be long lasting and provide new opportunities for individuals interested in the field of aging. Whether your passion is direct care; implementing innovation through technology and/or programming; data and/or policy analysis; keeping older adults safe from abuse, neglect and exploitation; connecting older adults to long-term care services and supports; or just about any other area, there is an aging career for you. Georgia will continue to serve as a leader in serving older adults because of the great expertise and passion of our aging network. Come join us!”
