Stop, spot and support
Returning to school during a pandemic presents new challenges for our communities. Families must balance work, safety and care from home throughout the year. While many have found creative ways to ease tensions, others are struggling to manage the stress and anxiety that comes with the current uncertainty. As school districts proceed with virtual learning, parents and educators have an opportunity to work together to recognize abuse in virtual environments.
Social distancing, face coverings and proper cleaning and disinfecting are some ways to help keep educators and children safe. Still, we must remain vigilant during this time. Child abuse reports are trending down nationwide as many children are spending less time outside the home, where most reporters see signs of abuse or neglect. Although students and teachers are separated physically, regular connection via virtual classrooms presents an opportunity for teachers to detect abuse.
Stop, Spot and Support is a microsite that the Division of Family & Children Services created as a resource for all mandated reporters to help recognize abuse in virtual settings and further assist families during these uncertain times. Under this new normal, mandated reporters play an essential role in identifying and reporting potential abuse or neglect. Feel free to share this resource with your networks by visiting spotstopandsupport.constantcontactsites.com/
