Honoring 50 years of the child support program in Georgia
This month, the Georgia Department of Human Services’ Division of Child Support Services is celebrating 50 years of service to Georgia’s children and families. We’ve met many significant milestones over these five decades and throughout the month will be recognizing and celebrating the vital role our state’s child support program plays in promoting the safety and well-being of children.
The array of services DCSS provides to families include but are not limited to: paternity establishment, court order establishment for financial and medical support, payment distribution, enforcement of court orders when payments are not being made, and review and modification of court orders when circumstances change. These services have benefited millions of children over the past five decades—and 449,000 in the last year alone.
At DCSS, we understand that, while most parents meet their court-ordered child support obligation regularly, there are times when parents who are willing to make payments face barriers that prevent them from doing so. Our Fatherhood and Parental Accountability Court outreach programs are available to help parents in these situations. We also have an Access and Visitation program that can provide resources to parents who need help coordinating visitation or parenting time.
