Georgia highlights Senior Hunger Awareness Month this April
This April, DHS is proud to observe Senior Hunger Awareness Month for the third year in a row. In Georgia, senior hunger is a large issue facing older Georgians.
Currently, more than 13% of older Georgians face food insecurity, which means that they do not know how they will afford their next meal and they may not have access to balanced, nutritious meals on a regular basis.
DHS is deeply committed to fighting senior hunger, and that is reflected by our creation and implementation of the first state plan to address senior hunger. Georgia’s state plan to address senior hunger concentrates on five focus area topics, those include: Today’s Seniors, Health Impact of Senior Hunger, Food Access, Food Waste and Reclamation, and Meeting the Community’s Needs.
Visit our DHS Facebook page throughout the month to learn more about Georgia’s plan to address senior hunger and to find resources for seniors, caregivers, and those who serve, work with, or spend time with seniors.
DHS’ Division of Aging Services has many resources available for seniors facing insecurity and community members looking to get involved. Check out the resources below:
