Partnering For Permanency FAMILY NIGHT Creating Loving Families Through Adoption
ATLANTA, GA – On Thursday, April 20, 2017 the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) will sponsor Partnering for Permanency FAMILY NIGHT, a match meeting for families who are interested in learning more about adoption. This event will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Augusta Convention Center, 901 Reynolds Street, Augusta. DFCS and private adoption agencies from throughout the state will share information about specific older children in need of adoptive families. DFCS will also provide general information for families interested in becoming adoptive or foster parents.
“Our staff members look forward to this event each year as it gives them a chance to share with prospective adoptive families information about the wonderful kids with whom they have the opportunity to work,” said Deborah Burrus, State Permanency Director. “This event not only gives families a chance to learn a little more about adoptable children from around the state, but also gives the case managers of those kids a chance to learn a little more about families possibly interested in adopting those kids. It is this informal exchange of information that many times leads to a formal match being made, which is the goal for all of the kids presented at the FAMILY NIGHT match meeting.”
There are approximately 900 children adopted in Georgia each year; however, there are over 250 children still in need of an adoptive family. These children are typically 8 years old or older and/or a member of a sibling group who need to be placed together. Families interested in adopting an older child or learning more about the program are encouraged to attend the match meeting.
