New Report: Georgia Examines Older Adults' Transportation Needs
More than 196,000 Georgians age 70 and older have an unmet transportation need, according to a report prepared for the DHS Division of Aging Services by researchers at Georgia State University’s Georgia Health Policy Center.
The need for transportation services is especially acute in Georgia’s rural areas. Researchers found that very few transportation services for older adults, other than the DHS Coordinated Transportation System, exist outside of metro Atlanta.
The 75-page report also highlights promising practices that could help older Georgians who have difficulty getting to medical appointments, going grocery shopping or meeting other basic transportation needs.
