Celebrate Georgia's seniors
Each year, more and more older adults are making a positive impact in and around Georgia. As volunteers, employees, employers, mentors, advocates and more, they offer insight and experience that benefits everyone. Each May, we join the nation in celebrating Older Americans Month to recognize older Americans, specifically older Georgians for their contributions to our communities. It is our goal to assist these older individuals, their families and caregivers in achieving safe, healthy, independent and self-reliant lives. This year's Older Americans Month theme, "Connect, Create, Contribute," encourages older adults and their communities to:
- Connect with friends, family and local services and resources.
- Create through activities that promote learning, health and personal enrichment.
- Contribute time, talent and life experience to benefit others.
With Georgia boasting one of the nation’s fastest-growing 60-and-older populations, with 1.7 million already falling in that age range, seniors are connecting, creating, and contributing more than ever! During the month of May, it is DHS’ goal to educate the public about the programs and resources the Division of Aging Services has to offer, while also spotlighting older Georgians connecting, creating and contributing for a stronger Georgia!
