ATLANTA – Eligible Families throughout Georgia received additional food stamp benefits for March. The additional benefits are available because of Pandemic Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or P-SNAP. P-SNAP allows SNAP recipients who do not receive the maximum benefit for their household to get additional money automatically. Those already receiving the maximum amount for their household will not receive additional funds.

Congress authorized P-SNAP in response to COVID-19. The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) administers SNAP nationwide. FNS approved a waiver allowing the Division of Family and Children Services (DFCS) to issue supplements to cover the difference between previously issued benefits and additional funds allowed under P-SNAP.

Approximately 1.7 million Georgians rely on SNAP to feed their families. “Georgians are facing dire circumstances due to COVID-19,” said DFCS Director Tom Rawlings, “we hope P-SNAP provides some relief to families in the greatest need.”

The Food Stamp Limits chart shows how much families can receive based on the size of their household. P-SNAP allows families to automatically receive the maximum amount in March and April. DFCS issued the additional allotments to recipients’ Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.
