March is National Social Work Month
March is National Social Work Month. This year’s theme, “Social Work Breaks Barriers,” highlights how social workers have enriched our society by empowering people and communities to overcome hurdles that prevent them from living life to the fullest. Social workers are vital to creating a stronger Georgia. Social workers have always broken barriers when it comes to the services they provide in an array of sectors, including hospitals and mental health centers, federal, state, and local government, schools, community centers, and social service agencies.
At DHS, we work to break barriers for Georgia families. Every day, our caseworkers help clients with services ranging from medical assistance, adult protective services, child support, child welfare, foster and adoptive care, and beyond. We are an agency made up of social workers answering the call to help their fellow Georgians navigate some of life’s toughest challenges.
This month, we will recognize the contributions of social workers within our divisions of Aging Services, Child Support Services, and Family & Children Services, who have been a lifeline for Georgia’s vulnerable families.
