May is National Foster Care Awareness Month

National Foster Care Awareness Month

May is National Foster Care Awareness Month, a time to celebrate current foster caregivers and raise awareness for the need for additional foster caregivers across the state.

Children and youth in foster care need safe, stable, and nurturing environments until they can be reunited with their families or establish their forever family through adoption. With over 11,300 children in foster care throughout Georgia, we understand that we cannot do this work alone.

We are currently in need of foster caregivers for older youth, sibling groups, and children with complex needs. If you’re interested in learning more about foster care in Georgia, visit fostergeorgia.com or call 1-877-210-KIDS. Hear from Georgia foster parents about their experience in the video below.

It takes an entire village to support children and families in need, and your help makes a difference. Below are a few ways you can help support current foster caregivers and encourage the recruitment of new caregivers.

  • Volunteer with organizations who support foster and adoptive parents
  • Share with your personal and professional network about the need for foster parents
  • Celebrate the foster and adoptive parents in your community
  • Network online and share statistics and/or graphics to encourage foster parent recruitment
  • Encourage those interested in fostering to visit fostergeorgia.com or call 1-877-210-KIDS
