As aging population grows so does demand for workers

During Careers in Aging Month, DAS is proud to join our state and national partners in bringing greater awareness and visibility to the career opportunities in older adult services. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Georgia has the ninth fastest growing 60 and older population, and more than 20% of Georgia’s population will be 60 or older by 2030, an increase of almost 34% from 2012. As a result, the demand for trained professionals to care for our aging communities is rapidly increasing.

This month, we will share what inspires those who work in older adult services and highlight job opportunities for those interested in a career in aging. DAS employees serve in a variety of roles with focuses in Adult Protective Services, Public Guardianship, Senior Hunger, and more.

DAS has resources and opportunities working alongside professionals in universities, senior living communities, hospitals, long-term care facilities, assisted living communities, and other workplaces. The options are endless for those eager to excel in the aging industry.

One exciting opportunity is the new Applied Gerontology nexus program at the University of North Georgia. According to the University of North Georgia, the nexus degree program produces career-ready graduates to meet the diverse, multifaceted workforce needs to support Georgia’s growing aging population. Take advantage of this opening in the aging field where careers are available and waiting for you. Read more about the program here.

With demand at an all-time high, working in the aging field means rewarding work helping Georgia’s seniors maintain their health and independence. Follow our DHS LinkedIn page or visit the DHS jobs website to learn about open opportunities with the Division of Aging Services.
