Georgia Medicaid Redetermination Begins, Members Can Check Individual Redetermination Dates in Gateway

Atlanta, GA – Along with all 50 states and U.S. territories, the State of Georgia has resumed checking eligibility for all Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids® members for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Medicaid members can find their individual redetermination month and information about the process in their Gateway account at gateway.ga.gov. Members are reminded they should only share their personal information with official state representatives and on official state platforms.

DHS and DCH Urge 2.7 Million Medicaid Members to Keep Contact Information Updated as Redetermination Begins

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for Cooling Opens April 3

Atlanta, GA – The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Cooling Program, administered by the Georgia Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS), will be available April 3, 2023, through July 31, 2023, or until funds are exhausted. This federally funded program assists low-income, elderly, and disabled Georgians with cooling bills through direct payments to home energy suppliers.

DHS Files Amendments to Rules and Regulations for Child Placing Agencies with Secretary of State

Atlanta, GA – Today, the Georgia Department of Human Services, as authorized by the Board of Human Services, filed three amendments to the Rules and Regulations for Child Placing Agencies with the Secretary of State. The amendments, which will go into effect March 13, 2023, eliminate the need for providers to request waivers of certain regulatory requirements and make certain regulatory requirements less burdensome for providers.

DHS Submits Waivers to USDA Food and Nutrition Service

Atlanta, GA – The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) is committed to transforming its systems and work to meet its goals of serving customers. In support of these efforts, DHS has submitted seven requests in recent months to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) for waivers to improve outcomes for Division of Family & Children Services customers and benefits workers. Three of seven waivers have been approved, and the remaining four – pending FNS consideration and approval – will help ensure children and families get the services they need in a timely manner, enhance work processes and supports, and improve caseworker effectiveness.

DHS Receives Approval to Renew Simplified Process for Seniors Applying for SNAP

Atlanta, GA – Today, the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS) announced approval from the USDA Food and Nutrition Service to renew Georgia’s Elderly Simplified Application Project (ESAP) through Jan. 31, 2028. ESAP is a federal demonstration project that seeks to simplify the SNAP application and verification process for eligible households. SNAP applications are eligible for ESAP if all eligible household members are age 60 or older and have no earned income.

DHS Issues Summer 2022 Benefits to Eligible Children

DHS Announces New SNAP Retailer

DHS Issues Second Round of P-EBT to Youngest SNAP Recipients

Division of Child Support Services Awarded SAVES Demonstration Grant

Atlanta, GA – Earlier this month, the Georgia Department of Human Services’ (DHS) Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) received a five-year Safe Access for Victims’ Economic Security (SAVES) grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families (ACF). For FY23, DCSS will be awarded $313,873 to aid in SAVES efforts. SAVES is a new national demonstration model designed to develop, evaluate, and implement best practices to provide safe access to child support and parenting time services. Parenting time services determine the schedule and conditions for when each parent is with their child(ren).
