Commission Initiatives
In 2020, the Georgia Commission of the Deaf or Hard of Hearing (GaCDHH) adopted the mission to advocate for human rights for Georgia’s Deaf, hard of hearing, and DeafBlind (DB) communities across the lifespan and inclusive of all languages.
GaCDHH uses the following graphic as a framework for their work:

GaCDHH is working on the following initiatives:
- Write a report for the Governor and General Assembly describing language and literacy outcomes for deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) and DeafBlind (DB) children every year
- Create ASL vlogs for GaCDHH website
- Encourage other state agencies to include ASL vlogs on their websites
- Advocate for installation of hearing loops in the Georgia Capitol and at the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport
- Advocate for changes to Medicaid policies for DHH and DB children and adults
- Disseminate information to medical professionals about the importance of early detection and intervention for DHH infants
- Advocate for Support Service Providers for DeafBlind Georgians
- Create online learning modules designed to increase knowledge of families and Georgia professionals about audiological management and intervention services
- Determine the feasibility of the first Doctorate of Audiology degree program in the state of Georgia
- Develop an online resource for families to assist them in navigating funding sources for hearing aids and other audiological technology
- Support the passage of HR145 which would require the Department of Public Health and the Department of Education to develop a plan for periodically conducting school-aged screening for hearing loss
Each of these initiatives have a working group of commissioners and other professionals who are passionate about the initiative. If you want to join a working group, please email the commission at [email protected].
